People will say anything to sell their product, often not telling the entire truth. Customers on the other hand will often accept what sounds good, very rarely caring to look further than what’s told to them by these sales people. Today. the best way to sell something is by making it sound green.
Why? Green washing works because it makes us feel good when we are told how we are being environmentally conscious by choosing the particular product/service. It reinforces what we would like to think about ourselves.
Take electric cars – marketed as being zero emission vehicles, which is far way from being true. Electric vehicles have the potential to be zero emission vehicles; but only if they are charged using 100% renewable energy like Solar, Wind or Hydropower. Indeed studies show that if the electricity for your EV comes from coal powered plants, you’re better off driving a normal petrol car.
I wonder how and why the salesman almost always forgets to mention that.
