We humans have a tendency to sometimes make up sentences which make no sense. ‘Save the planet’, ‘Think of mother Earth’, ‘care about fellow creatures’ and the like make us seem to be of a higher order and makes us believe that we are doing something noble and that we are helping others by looking after the environment.
This could not be any further from the truth. We need to do it for only one selfish reason – so that we can enjoy living life on Earth as we know it. Earth and its other beings do not need our help; they just need us to realize that we are not the only species inhabiting it. We humans are the most invasive species the planet has probably ever seen. Earth was fine for billions of years before we came and will continue to exist and be ok for billions of years after we are gone.
Infact, if all humanity was to disappear from the face of the Earth, it would regain equilibrium in the next ten thousand years. But, if all the cockroaches on the planet were to disappear, the entire global eco-system would collapse. So it’s time we got off our asses, gave a thought and did something to conserve life on this planet – not for the Earth, the Tiger or anyone else. For us and our children.
